I'm
an abstract artist now living in a high desert mountain community
in Southern Californa. I've been working on a series of abstract "stone"
paintings which are inspired by the high desert mountain area in which
I reside. These are fairly minimalistic paintings and, although at
first glance, appear as if they're entirely about surface detail, have
illusionistic depth as well. I apply paint of varying colors and values,
one layer upon another, until I establish a tromp l'oeil effect with
an allusion to visual depth. These are fictional works and take me
several days to complete. The medium used is oil, and a few of them
have some acrylic underpainting.
