Davis Studio and Residence
 Frank O. Gehry, Architect

As Gehry explains, “I built the most beautiful shell I could do, and then let him bring his stuff to it, and convert it to his use. In its optimum, it's a kind of confrontation between the client's aesthetic and values and my own.” The building was designed to allow phased additions of different levels to increase the usable floor space, and the crawl space beneath the building (except under the garage area, which sat on an on-grade slab) was designed to permit changes in the mechanical and electrical systems.
